Open Data Kit (ODK) is a set of tools to facilitate registration of observations in the field.
Soil Observations, Measurements and Samples Database
Soil survey data is preferably stored in a datamodel based on the Observation, Measurements and Samples standard of OGC. A typical expression of this model is iso28258. To facilitate use of this model in a relational database domain, ISRIC - World Soil Information has prepared a relational database model implementing the iso29258 concepts.
Download the iso28258-relational documentation
Download the database model as a set of Graphile-migrate database creation scripts for PostGreSQL

Digital Soil Mapping tool chain
Digital soil mapping is the process of predicting distribution of soil properties between sampling points in an automated way. Contrary to analogue soil mapping, where the soil surveyer typically predicts the distribution based on landscape properties.
Digital soil mapping has evelved over the last 20 years from geostatistical processes to machine learning techniques using a variety of landscape properties (covariates); elevation, land use, geology.
In the last years ISRIC has developed a tool chain for digital soil mapping, which makes DSM available for a larger audience.
